Spray Booth Requirements

Over pressure alarms & cabin pressure gauges

During operation, all enclosed spray booths must be maintained under negative pressure to ensure that overspray remains contained within the cabin preventing the release of overspray and solvents into the surrounding environment.

Enclosed systems with forced air intake should be equipped with overpressure devices to mitigate the risk of overpressure. Our over pressure devices come with an audible alarm to promptly alert plant operators in the event of an overpressure fault and a cabin pressure gauge to give a visual indication of the cabin pressure during operation.

Filter gauges and pressure switches

Filter pressure switches alert plant operators when disposable filtration is due to be replaced. Our filter pressure switches signal a green light when the filters are clean and a red light when the filters should be replaced. Magnahelic filter gauges are fitted to give a visual indication of the filter pressure during operation.

Lights and audible alarms can be fitted to notify spray booth operators when the device detects the filters have become blocked.

Over run timers

HSG258 suggests enclosed spray booths have overrun timers incorporated into the control circuitry.

With over run timers fitted, a spray booth extract fan will continue to operate for a duration of time after plant operators have switched the system off. The timer will be set to the clearance time which was determined on the previous thorough examination and test. Overrun timers ensure all overspray has been extracted before the system comes to a complete shutdown.

Spray application shut off interlock

As suggested in BS EN 16985:2018 an interface should be fitted to enable the interlocking of the extract fan with the spray application system. In the event of a fan failure or a pressure fault the interlock should halt or disable the spray application process. Where this isn’t practical an audible alarm can be fitted to notify plant operators of a fault.
